We placed well in the Scout competition last year and won the Explorer trophy, so our group and unit set a very high standard in this competition. This year it takes place in the food tech labs at Richmond School.

Times: 5:30-8:00pm – presentations at 7:45pm
Here are the rules for this year’s competition, direct from the organisers.
1. A Team consists of two Scouts only one may be aged 13 or over, at the date of the Competition. Scout Troops may enter up to THREE teams. Explorers. A Team consists of two Explorer Scouts only one may be aged 16 or over, at the date of the Competition. Explorer Units may enter up to THREE teams.”
2. Teams will be allocated a workstation consisting of a Gas or Electric oven with grill & 4 rings, table, sink with hot/cold water, utensils, crockery, cutlery, pans, bowls etc. BUT most people bring their own. You need to bring tablecloth, table decoration, tea towels etc.
3. Teams will prepare a Two Course Meal for two people this must include a main course *Explorer Teams one course must be Vegetarian or Vegan All ingredients must be prepared during the competition; no alcohol may be used. The cost of all items used must not exceed £16.00 per team. Receipts of purchase must be shown to the judges (does not include items such as salt, pepper etc)
4. All Scouts / Explorers must arrive in correct Scout uniform and wear it at the presentation; protective clothing should be worn during preparation and cooking.
5. There will be four judges. Two will be professional cooks and two Scout Leaders from another District. The Judges will be the only adults allowed in the kitchen during the competition plus a member of the school staff & a first aider. The judges will agree a time with each team when their meal will be served; this allows up to hour fifteen minutes for preparation and cooking.
6. There will be a total of 100 points per team made up as follows.

The “McGarry Board” (kindly donated by our former DC, Mike) will be presented to the winning team; there will be certificates for all teams and prizes awarded to 1st 2nd and 3rd places. The Presentation will be at 7.45pm approx parents and Leaders are VERY WELCOME to join us for this.
Entries close at the end of next week. Since we have already spoken to our Scouts and Explorers about the competition they will have started forming teams, so you just need to complete the form below. Please do so by Wednesday 6th November. We always recommend a practice session beforehand. And take a good look at how many points can be gained for non-food bits!
We need to pass on emergency contact details for all entrants, and we will use the details we have in Online Scout Manager. Maybe time to check what details we have for you 😉
In the event we get more than three Scout and three Explorer teams we will assign places on a first-come-first-served basis.
