Family Camp 2018

This year’s Family Camp will take place at Thornton Watlass Hall, Thornton Watlass, Bedale. HG4 4AS

Date: Friday 14th to Sunday 16th September. The camp will open officially on Friday14th September at 8pm but everyone is invited to arrive any time on Friday to pitch tents and get settled in. The camp will close on Sunday 16th September at 2pm. Your camp fee includes all catering starting with breakfast on Saturday morning.

Who is it for: All members of our Scout Group and their families including siblings.

Beavers and Cubs will need to be accompanied by an adult.

Scouts and Explorers do not need to be accompanied but of course, their families are very welcome to come along!

Sleeping arrangements: Families will provide their own sleeping accommodation. We have some spare tents so if you need to borrow one please let us know at time of booking.

Caravans and motorhomes are welcome but please note this is a green field site so there is no hard standing…………or electric hook up!

Scouts and Explorers can choose to sleep with their family or with the other young people. Please let us know at the time of booking.

How much? £35 per adult, £30 per child. This includes all food and activities. If you would like to spread the cost please speak to your section leader.

Facilities: We have hired chemical toilets. Showers are not available on this site.

Catering: all food is included in the price and catering is central. You will get a cooked breakfast, sandwiches for lunch and a hot evening meal as well as mid-morning and afternoon snacks and hot chocolate and biscuits at bedtime. Please note that the catering will start with breakfast on Saturday. You will need to make provision for evening meal, snacks etc. on Friday night. There are plenty of outlets in Bedale which is 5 mins away.

Please make sure you let us know of any dietary requirements on your booking form. We can produce a gluten free, vegetarian, low fat, sugar free spag bol in the middle of a field but we need warning!!

If you would like to attend please complete the booking form you received through your section and return it to your section leader with your payment no later than 5th July 2018 if you have not attended a Family Camp before and don’t have a Scout DBS. If you didn’t get a form via your section drop us an email at bartonscouts@gmail.com and we will send one straight back to you.

If you have a Scout DBS we can accept bookings until 1st September. You can return the form to me by email and pay by BACS – contact us for details.

Sorry but late bookings cannot be accepted.

Please note that all adults attending overnight must undergo a Scout Association DBS check even if you have been checked by another organisation. If you have attended a Family Camp in the past 5 years you will be covered. There is no charge for this check.

St George Parade Sunday 22nd April – 2.15pm Richmond

The Patron Saint of Scouting is St. George. Scouts remind themselves of their Promise and Scout Law, renew our promises and make a special point of all coming together on St Georges Day.

We hope that all Beavers, Cubs, Scouts and Explorers will be able to parade with other Scout Groups in the district for a short service at St Marys Church, Richmond. There’ll be no dragons, so don’t worry.

Meet: The Town Hall, Market Place, Richmond at 2.15 ready to parade at 2.30pm. 

Please wear smart uniform: School trousers/skirt, school shoes, top and necker.

For info: The route will cross the market place to the Castle, down the hill to the car park by the ice cream parlour and from there along the Batts and up to the church. 

Pick up at the Batts at 4 pm.

Parents welcome to join the service if you so wish.

Explorer Fundraising Disco

The Explorers would like to invite all Beavers, Cubs & Scouts to a Disco on Thursday 31st March. This will be one of our fundraising events for our Summer camp in August.
Entry will be £2 and we will have a tuck shop so bring some extra money for sweets!
Just turn up at Barton Village Hall on the day.

Beavers, Cubs & Scouts 6pm-7.30pm
Scouts/Explorers only from 7.30pm-9pm.

Duke of Edinburgh 2015 Dates

Here are some dates you will need for 2015:

Bronze Duke Of Edinburgh

Provisional dates:

Saturday 7th- Sunday 8th March -Practice/Training weekend

Saturday 25th-Sunday 26th April- Qualifying Expedition

The Bronze D of E scheme is available to everyone in explorers, we ask for a total payment of £60 to cover your registration, D of E pack, use of equipment and campsite fees for both weekends. Please make cheques payable to Half Moon Explorers.

Silver Duke Of Edinburgh

Here are the proposed dates for training and the expedition itself; due to the alternative mode of transport we require extra dates to train you.
